I am really pleased with level of finish I have managed to achieve with my book, I think it was key to be patient and to take my time with binding it. I did make a small mistake when cutting down the pages, cropping them too close before it was saddle stitched together, which then meant I had to lose about 2mm off each edge when trimming despite the bleed. I probably need to write a reminder list of things to to in future.
